BACKGROUND
Howard “Skip” Archer comes to us from Centerville, Pennsylvania but also shows current addresses in Flemington, Missouri as well as Ashtabula, Ohio. Archer is 72 y/o at the time of this writing – Aug 2021. He prefers the nickname “Skip” and most people call him that.
Archer has claimed to people around him that he was a POW in Vietnam. He also sports two Silver Stars, a Bronze Star, a Purple Heart and a POW medal with “V” device in the below photo – in addition to displaying the rank of USMC Captain (O-3). Also of note is the Vietnam Service Medal.

Archer’s claims are reinforced by presenting a DD-214 with the “Vietnamise [sic] Service Medal, Navy Cross, Good Conduct and Purple Heart. As with all documents supplied to us via a 3rd party, in this case a relative – we cannot attest to their authenticity.
Oddly enough – on this DD-214 there is no mention of the two Silver Stars or Bronze Star. Also odd is the alleged Admin Clerk’s misspelling of “Vietnamese Service Medal” and the obvious darker typeface of the last four medals – almost as if those medals were an afterthought.

DISCUSSION and SUMMARY
Looking at the FOIA results – the NPRC summary sheet states that Archer’s records show he was in during the time of the Vietnam War, but did not travel overseas except to Hawaii. He got into some trouble with being AWOL/UA and spent some time in the Brig. This was probably why he was discharged as an E-1 Private. There are no awards for Navy Cross, two Silver Stars, a Purple Heart nor a POW medal. There is also no Vietnam Service Medal. If Archer has used these claims to leverage anything of value he could be in violation of Stolen Valor laws.
Altering a DD-214 – which appears likely here – is also problematic, especially if he used it for leverage.

This person, howard ” skip” archer is not only stealing valor he’s also a child molester. I know this because I was his victim from the age of 7-16. I want to tell my story.
He was my stepfather. The touching started at 7 years old. I lost my virginity to him by 8 . He would come to my room at night. He would take me away on fishing trips at night and park and do whatever he wanted to me. He would take me on bike rides and do what he wanted to me. He would tell me, no one loved me but him and I had to listen and do what he said. Which at that age made sense since I had no bond with my mother. Then as I got older the beatings and punishments started. He would make me draw a bathtub full of cold water and to get my mother to shut up he would hold my head under water until I quit bubbling. She never would shut up or stop him. He would make me stand in the hallway of our trailer on my head for hours as punishment. If I fell. There was a beating to come. He threw me off a bridge once because I couldn’t swim. He beat up my 80 some year old papa in front of me. He threatened me that he had killed people before. This is all before I was 12.
At 12years we moved from Pennsylvania to new York.
I was older then and would start to fight. He cut my finger once with a knife as he raped me in my room because I faught him. The abuse continued. I was in 7 th or 8 th grade when I came home from school and no one was home but him. He was on his way to go March in a Veterans parade which he did often.
But first he wanted oral sex. I refused and he took a can of Lysol and attempted to spray it inside of me. So I complied.
Later my mom came home and I was crying. So I told her what he did and she took us away for about a month and then called me a liar and took him back.
After that he left me alone until I was about 14. Then it started again. I fought him hard until he told me if I didn’t stop fighting he would start with my sister. I stopped fighting him then. I wanted to kill him. I fantasized about ways to do it but I was always afraid he wouldn’t die and I would be in more trouble. He would give the rest of the family pills at night so they would sleep and not me. Then he would come. I started stealing the pills myself but that didn’t help me. He even made me dance naked on the bed in front of my mother. . I even tried to run away once when I was 15 but he found me . I finally told a friend what was happening but swore her to secrecy. I was terrified if he found out I told I would die. I could never even imagine not being there living like that.
One day while he was gone my mom and siblings left. They left me on the porch. They finally came back and got me but my mom looked at me as an adversary not a daughter.
We left Sherman new York that day and went to Pennsylvania to a shelter. That’s the first time I ever told my story.
Social workers came and Howard Roy archer aka ” skip” was shortly arrested but alot of the stuff when I was little was past the statute of limitations to prosecute.
He ended up taking a plea deal to one count of forcing me to have oral sex. He spent 6 months in chataqua county jail in New York and didn’t even have to register as a sex offender.
I ran away to west virginia after that and have contacted him once to try to get answers as to why he did that to me and all I got was that it was my fault. At 7 years old I made him fall in love with me. He actually said I owed him money due to counseling he had to do. I OWED HIM!!! So that’s pretty much my story about this person. I kniw he has had to have molested more than just me. I hope he someday is held accountable for his sins legally but for me today this is enough. I got to tell my story and I hope everyone reads it and shares it and knows what kind of a monster this person really is. I thank you all who worked on this especially you [NAME REDACTED]. This is my justice finally!!!!!!!!!
Sorry for your pain. These valor thief scumbags usually have multiple other, more serious crimes they have committed. That is why we say their valor theft is usually the cherry on top of their shit sundae. Your story is further proof of that reality.
This is only a short summary of what he did to me. There’s so much more that I left out like holding pillows over my face to smother me for punishment or to comply with what he wanted. . like making me think at the end he was the only one that loved me. I believed that because my mother hated me. Like trying to take me to lake Erie and drown me for telling on him . my mom was going to make me go. My aunt saved me that night .
like after he had a car accident with my ” uncle ” Dave . Dave yocum , who always came to our house. There was a car accident . in canadohta lake Crawford county pa. In the 1980s . uncle Dave died in that accident while skip was driving. He told me he killed him because he was jealous of him because of me! It was right after that that we left canadohta lake pa and moved to Westfield New York. He scared me with that fear that he could kill me anytime and get away with it. Plus the guilt for thinking he killed my uncle Dave. I don’t know what happened to uncle Dave . maybe he just died in the wreck but I still don’t know to this day. The only good memories I have of my life are before him with my god parents. Pop pop and Mimi .
I could not even imagine a life outside of his control. Yes I’m older now but what he did to me damaged me forever. I’ve spent the rest of my life not trusting anyone. Getting into bad relationships.etc. it’s time that everyone knows this truth of what he did to me!!!!!

Here are several other small discrepancies, which further prove he’s a fraud:
1. Twice his Captain’s bars are shown. But Navy’s and Marine Corps’ 0-3 insignia differs — slightly, but unquestionably — from the Army’s and the Air Force’s. In the maritime services the “railroad track” is abutted to the two ends of the “railroad tie,” whereas in the other service, the “track” is slightly interior to the “tie.”
2. The uniform shirt he displays is not — and has never been — approved for USMC use; it has epaulets, which is historically correct for Army uniforms.
3. The ribbon rack has a small space between it’s rows; however, in the Navy and the Marine Corps, ribbon rows are abutted one to another.
It took some pretty serious pooch-screwing to get kicked out back in those days, and now he claims all that? WHAT a pisspants fungus-headed ass-maggot!!!

I’m a former army man, 1967-1970, Vietnam, 1968-69 (101st Airborne Division), so I don’t know too much about Marine service. However, it seems that he only served about 20 months, and regular service in the Corp is four years. Hence, he must have been discharged early for some nefarious reason. And his name tag seems army, not Marine, and he certainly was no captain, that’s for sure.
Generally, back during Vietnam, an enlistee signed on for a standard 4 year contract, while draftees were signed on for 2 years. Most of the draftees were there for service in Vietnam. But this guy was discharged before 24 months were up, so that means he was probably not discharged with an Honorable designation.
This is a shame and he is also defeating the purpose of this organization so therefore should be removed from our ranks.

WE, The People need to seriously consider getting the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn the “Stolen Valor” laws so that it is NOT covered under the 1st Amendment, but an actual felony.
I would caution AGAINST that. Show me the line in the sand that separates a lie from embellishment. Yeah, I hate frauds, fakes, and posers-in fact I’ve outed three of them but have you ever spent any length of time at a bar, gun show, or gun shop? Those are significantly target rich breeding grounds for military frauds. LOTS AND LOTS of guys claim to have been shit they weren’t. I’ve met so many dudes who claimed to have been “Scout Snipers” that until I worked with a couple of guys who actually were such I thought the USMC had about a division of them on duty. If you pass a law that states that ANY improvement upon the facts or mistruth is a crime you’re going to unleash a Spanish Inquisition because from what I’ve seen a huge number people (mostly men) lie/embellish/prevaricate/dissemble about their military service (or lack thereof).
Fr’instance an old guy down the street claimed he enlisted in the Army in mid-1942 and according to him was in flight training continuously just graduating from T-6 “Texans” when VJ Day occurred and thus never deployed. Now if you know anything about the flight training system in the Army Air Corps his story was BS.
A friend of my spouse (who I’ve always thought was a squirrel) claims that he was sent to Vietnam in 1972 and served as a tanker but when his M-60 was deadlined he finished his tour as a “sniper”. Yeah-he went from tread head to sniper. Think that story is bullsh!t?
I could go on and on. People are people and they often don’t tell the truth. Yeah, I don’t like it, but this is America and it’s everybody’s right to be an asshole, change the Stolen Valor law and you’re find out just how many people are. Frankly I don’t want to live in a country where I have to walk around with my DD-214 24/7 cuz’ some jerk off doesn’t believe I deserve my veteran license plate because I have an anti-Trump bumper sticker on my car (yeah-that’s happened, more than once).

In Germany, you are only able to get information about others who served, if you are an active soldier. But that will be cancelled soon, as I’ve heard.

Thank god not all Americans talk like you, thinking they are the top elite in the world and the others are just dirt under their shoes. I’ve met a lot of US soldiers here in Germany, in Afghanistan and the US, some are still really good friends, but no one ever talked so much BS like you.

Always go out riding and sometimes encounter these kooks and creeps like these that embellish their service. Starts off believable with some follow up questions that check out. Then they get comfortable with you and have a few beers and then the bullshit comes out. Usually caught with fucked up timelines and history. For example: had someone claim they were involved in the failed Iranian hostage rescue in 1980. He was “scouting out” the situation in Tehran looking for possible problems. Asked a basic question. When was this? He hesitated answering and said 83. The biggest problem with his story wasn’t his timeline. It was that he was black. Can’t imagine some black dude walking around in a city full of light brown and white skin Persians with him probably not even knowing the language or being able to speak it.
