BACKGROUND
Philip Dexter Larimer II comes to us from Overland Park, Kansas. Larimer is 48 years old at the time of this writing – June 2025.
Larimer has made many claims, some military and some civilian. We primarily focus on the military claims, but here is a list of them:
MILITARY:
-
Rear Admiral (Lower Half) O-7
-
30 years of active duty, implying retirement
-
JSOC, DEVGRU, NAVSPECWAR Groups ONE and TWO
-
Achievement Medal w/ FOUR Purple Hearts
-
US Humanitarian Service Medal (POW)
-
Congressional Medal of Honor
CIVILIAN:
-
Professor of Nuclear Science and Engineering at MIT
-
Director of the Center for Advanced Nuclear Energy Systems (CANES)
-
Director of Science and Technology of the MIT Nuclear Reactor Laboratory
Here is Larimer’s DD-214, obtained through a third party that claims that Larimer supplied it based on questions surrounding his claims.
Here is an audio of Larimer claiming he was an Admiral in the US Navy and did 30 years.
A Facebook page reportedly belonging to Philip Dexter Larimer II, under the name “PD Dexter,” claims to be that of a retired veteran.
The Facebook page of the same name implies Navy retired via the profile photos:
As well as a post claiming he is a retired veteran with three decades of service:
Then, on a LinkedIn page reported to be Larimer and assigned the name “Philip Dexter Larimer II” there is a claim of being an Admiral, although it does not say US Navy Admiral.

ACTIONS CONDUCTED BY MILITARY PHONIES
Although he claimed NAVSPECWAR vs. SEAL, we checked the BUD/S-SEAL database.
After contacting the UDT/SEAL archives and checking the UDT/SEAL database we found that there is NO record of “Philip Dexter Larimer II” or any other variation of his name ever completing BUD/S Training or being assigned to any SEAL teams.
Philip Larimer’s military records were ordered through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.
We filed with the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) which would maintain records from earlier than the mid-1990s as well as the Department of the Navy (DoN) which would be in possession of records later than mid-1990s.

DISCUSSION and SUMMARY
MILITARY SERVICE
Our investigation found no record of military service for Philip Larimer. This absence of service records invalidates several key claims, including his purported rank of Rear Admiral in the US Navy, any connection to NAVSPECWAR, and assertions of retiring after more than thirty years of military service.
Two specific claims warrant particular attention due to their concerning nature and unusual presentation.
PRISONER OF WAR
Larimer does not appear in any official POW databases. His claim references a “United States Humanitarian Service Medal (POW),” which represents an unconventional and unclear designation. The meaning and legitimacy of this specific medal description with POW notation remain unexplained and appear inconsistent with standard military award nomenclature.
PURPLE HEARTS
The Purple Heart (x4) claim is similarly problematic. His DD-214 lists an “Achievement Medal with Four Purple Hearts,” which does not align with proper military award documentation. Purple Hearts are recorded as distinct individual awards, not as supplementary designations attached to other medals.
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS
We did not examine his educational claims, as this falls outside our investigative scope. However, questions surrounding his military service record (or lack thereof) may prompt additional scrutiny of his civilian credentials.
SUMMARY
Should Philip Larimer have leveraged any of these unsubstantiated military claims for personal gain or benefit, such actions could potentially constitute violations under the Stolen Valor Act.

[…] fine, upstanding folks at MilitaryPhony sent us their work on this Philip Dexter Larimer II […]
Wow, His facebook dating profile starts off like those fake Nigerian scam veterans! Basically; “I am a widower looking for someone to share my life with…” The only things missing is a young daughter living with her nanny, and him needing money to use a Skype phone so he can get permission to take leave from Kabul to go home to Beverly Hills.
He presents as a con man and a puss poor one at that. He cooks up a background and gives it some grade A ingredients. He’s a flag officer, a special operator, a P.O.W. and various other designations. The only thing, is he is none of those things. He’s a low grade con man and an unconvincing liar. In other words, a P.O.S..
48 years old with 30 years of service. Must have attended college as a 12 year old to be an officer at 18. Plus he taught college level nukes as a professor. Maybe he started college at 8 years old then. Well he must have been doing course work before he was born with all those credentials and retired by 48. And yet he has maintained this quiet profile in life that would surely have made the news with such accomplishments. Now his fame will enrich his life with his accomplishments of a stolen valor turd. Good for him!
