“I see dead people.” – The Sixth Sense

BACKGROUND

Wesley Michael Miller was a Staff Sergeant (SSG) that served in the U.S. Army.

Although Miller claims on his LinkedIn and his Facebook page that he’s currently in the U.S. Army, it appears that he got out on 20 June 2014. The profiles may not have been updated.

In April 2016, a post that appeared to be from Miller’s wife announced on their Facebook page that Wesley would be receiving the Purple Heart award.

This was complemented with a letter dated 18 April 2016 designating the award for 07 February 2009…

Posthumously? There were congratulations followed by a post from Wesley himself, which would be ironic since the award was designated as posthumously (occurring after death).

Something didn’t sound right so Miller’s official military records were ordered.

DISCUSSION and SUMMARY

Miller’s story is plausible as far as his active duty claims in relation to the Purple Heart award and letter — but posthumously? How could an admin clerk get that so horribly wrong? Another possibility is that the person writing the letter did not understand the meaning of the word ‘posthumously’ when they perhaps transcribed it from another official letter. Several US Army personnel that examined the letter in the photo believed it to be a fake.

Also, why wouldn’t the Purple Heart award appear on Miller’s DD-214? It is entirely possible that his DD-215 has not caught up to his records yet, especially if he petitioned for the Purple Heart years later. If that is the case, why not just post the actual award instead of a letter announcing it?

The letter that is titled “Permanent Orders 102-15” is signed by ‘Walter Avery, Chief Promulgation Team’. Walter Avery appears to be an actual person as evidenced by his LinkedIn account.

We at Military Phony have also seen wives “posting” on behalf of their husbands many times. It allows for plausible deniability when the feces hits the proverbial fan in that the husband will say that his wife posted claims without his knowledge. In any case, if married couples share a joint banking account, they are both responsible for the transactions and we don’t view this situation any differently. Since they share a joint Facebook account, this may come into play but Wesley clearly posted when he spoke of his wife.

All posts about Wesley Miller’s Purple Heart that were once on the Miller’s Facebook page have since been removed.

If everything is legitimate as far as Wesley Milller’s Purple Heart award, we suggest to him that he come back from the dead and get his paperwork straightened out because none of this adds up at all.
