Les Brown – Master Sergeant, Ranger, Special Forces, 20 Year Career, Blog of Shame

BACKGROUND

Lester Kent Brown, or “Les” as he prefers to be called, comes to us from Spring Creek, Nevada. Brown is 59 years old as of July 2019.

Brown heads up a POW/MIA Chapter in Nevada but for some reason everyone around him believes he is a retired Master Sergeant that retired after a 20 year career in the military.

This is probably due to it being carried in the newspaper when they talked about him being an inspriration.

Also, the MSG rank is on his vest, along with a RANGER tab, Special Forces crests and a Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB).

He also has a patch designating him as a Desert Storm veteran.

Notice the CIB in the photo above and this one below…

Mr. Brown’s military records were ordered through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.

DISCUSSION and SUMMARY

Brown got out as a Specialist which is a lower enlisted rating than his claim of Master Sergeant (E-8).

It does not appear that he retired after 20 years. He was discharged as designated on his summary sheet. It would have said retired if he retired.

Brown does not have the Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB) under his awards and he does not have the medals or assignments that would support his claim of being in Desert Storm.

He also does not have assignment to any Special Forces units.

If Brown used these claims to gain anything of value he could be in violation of Stolen Valor laws. State laws may also apply.

10 years ago, Les Brown “Grumpy” and “Lifer”, the top 2,
wore O-6 COL and O-5 LTC on their hats and vests.
When Tom Wulf “Top” (a real E-7) became #2, the hat rank vanished,
and E-8 and E-7 became their vest rank.

Lester here is a lying SOS POG who never did anything remarkable in his military service. Unlike those of us who have actually earned all the badges/DUI’s he is wearing on his uniforms and POSer vest, Lester was never Ranger qualified, never served in any Ranger unit, was never Special Forces qualified and never served in any SF unit. Moreover, he was never a combat infantryman, never served in combat or in any combat zone, never earned a CIB nor jump wings, and basically didn’t do squat. In addition, he has apparently been lying about his rank of Master Sergeant for years, since he was only an E-4 (not that there is anything wrong with that rank).

Huh boy, where do I even start?
If you want to criticize this Soldier for claiming that he was in the military for 20 years, you’ll need more than what you have. I see a newspaper article saying that, but nowhere do I see any evidence that MSG Brown himself claims it. I personally know that he was in for 20 years, but that’s beside the point. Is he responsible for what the newspaper prints?

Now as regards MSG rank, several Special Forces crests, the RANGER tab, a Combat Infantry Badge (CIB) and a patch designating him as a veteran of Desert Storm, you don’t have sufficient evidence here to refute any of that. His 2-1 form would of necessity be incomplete because the Army stopped placing entries on this form many years ago. When that occurred for him is dependent upon his Major Command at the time, not all of them ceased entries at the same time. My personal 2-1 contains less than 1/4 of my data, for example.
Even if you had a copy of his DD-214 here (you don’t), you would have to prove that you have ALL of his DD-214’s in order to conclusively refute any claims. I personally have six (yes, I said SIX) DD-214’s because certain changes in status such as going from Title 10 to Title 32 require a separate DD-214. Not one of my DD-214’s cover all of my awards, schools, qualifications or service. Many Servicemen like myself and MSG Brown have portions of our records that are classified and would not be released in response to a FOIA Request. This is even implicitly stated on the form where it identified this as “Information releasable under the Freedom of Information Act”. There are many things in a Serviceman’s record that are NOT releasable.

Finally, where is the regulation that covers what can and cannot be displayed on a POW*MIA vest? I have both Navy and Army rank on mine, indicating the highest rank achieved in each service. Can anyone produce a regulation that says I cannot do this?

If you want to actually make a case against this Soldier, here’s what you need:
      – ALL of his DD-214’s, Classified and Unclassified.
      – A sworn document listing those DD-214’s and a statement to the effect that this is all there are.
      – A documented regulation that describes what by law can be worn on a POW*MIA vest and what cannot.

As soon as you get all of this together, get back to me.

You do not offer nor do you provide proof… yet you demand more proof from us.

“Even if you had a copy of his DD-214 here (you don’t), you would have to prove that you have ALL of his DD-214’s in order to conclusively refute any claims.”

Although true, the NPRC rarely provides DD-214s. They provide the NA FORM 13164 Summary Sheet which is transcribed from the DD-214s and other areas of the records. We do not and cannot dictate policy to the NPRC, but we recognize their position as an authority on official records. You seem to be implying that this is flawed so I would ask that you take that up with them. We do due diligence and a part of that process is to request official military records from the NPRC.

“Many Servicemen like myself and MSG Brown have portions of our records that are classified and would not be released in response to a FOIA Request.”

This is where a red flag went up. You promote yourself as some kind of authority but this statement has to be directed at civilians that may not know any better. Records are not classified. Missions maybe, but not records. You have just revealed yourself to be an uninformed hack.

“ALL of his DD-214’s, Classified and Unclassified.”

A “Classified” DD-214? Read the previous comment. You’re showing your ignorance in regard to military records.

“As soon as you get all of this together, get back to me.”

Get back to you? That’s an arrogant statement. Do you have some authority that you have not told us about? If you’re Lester, you need to get back with us and post a “Classified DD-214” so we can all have a good laugh.

I predicted he was going to double down, and he did. Remember you can’t believe anything a Progda propagandist writes, even if writing for a local paper. Lester wants everyone to believe him; you should not believe your lying eyes as you read the two DD-214’s Lester himself recorded in Placer County, California and in Elko County, Nevada. One has to wonder how Lester earned any of the badges and DUI’s he claims in the National Guard during the period from 1992 until he claims he “retired in 1998..” His list of assignments from his Personnel Record show his last unit in 1993 was a National Guard Chemical Battalion in Elko, Nevada.

UPDATE – OH OH !!! The secretary of the ELKO POW / MIA has commented today, Saturday, July 27, on the Elko Daily Free Press Facebook page. —– (Paste) [Laura Adams] As an association this will be our only written statement about the false accusations against our Director Les Brown. First of all, we as an association stand behind him fully. We have all seen the documentation proving that all the claims against him are false and were made by people with limited information. If you are personally interested in seeing this documentation please attend a meeting or contact Les Brown personally. We do not feel it is necessary to provide personal information to the internet. We fully understand that there will be claims that this documentation does not exist, is fake or is altered, and that is their prerogative. The people that need to have it or need to know this documentation is authentic, already have it and already know. Our vests are another point we would like to talk about. Many of us have things on our vests that were given to us in memory of someone. We have pins and patches that we didn’t “earn” and we have never claimed to. We are NOT a Military ran organization and our Veterans are not in uniform. No laws or codes have been broken. Many of our members are not Military and have never claimed to be. We would also like to point out that we are not a motorcycle club or chapter. We use motorcycles as a tool to grab the public’s attention to bring awareness to the POW/MIA mission. Many in our association do not own bikes. Our goals as an association are clear: To bring awareness to our POW/MIA Military personnel and to help support the National League of POW/MIA Families and other local charities of our choice. We are guided by the principals of Freedom, Sacrifice, Liberty and Brotherhood to ensure that we maintain our focus on the issue at hand. Thank you…POW/MIA Elko Awareness Association. (end paste)

He also has jump wings with star and wreath as another badge. There also is a picture with a ranger tab. COL rank also appears on a beret, not really a crime, but just pretend. Also, nothing is a higher precedence than CIB badge on heart side. I realize no regulation covers its placement on a vest, but those who have it would have it highest even on a vest. The CIB below the desert storm patch would raise a few eyebrows. Les didn’t do his homework.
