BACKGROUND

Robert Llewellyn Shackford comes to us from Mechanicsville, Virginia which is in the Richmond area of Virginia. He grew up in Maine. Robert, or Bob, is 50 years old as of March 2019.

Bob likes to go to the Marine Corps Ball, which gives him a chance to wear his Marine Corps dress blues.

In the above photo, you can clearly see the “scuba bubble” and jump wings indicative of Marine Corps Recon. He also has a Purple Heart and a Combat Action Ribbon, along with other medals.

But he also displays his pride on his jeep. Notice the recon emblem on the license plate…

DISCUSSION and SUMMARY

SUMMARY SHEET

Bob Shackford’s summary sheet shows four years of active duty. He was discharged from as a Lance Corporal (E-3) and not a Sergeant (E-5).

The summary sheet also shows an NDSM but not CAR or Purple Heart.

It also does not show a Scuba Badge or Jump Wings. His assignments show no training for Recon.

The Combat Action Ribbon and the Purple Heart claims seem the most egregious.

STOLEN VALOR

The official military records for Robert Llewellyn Shackford do not support many of his claims – many of which are in violation of the Stolen Valor Act.

If these claims were leveraged by Bob Shackford for something of value over the years, including monetary gain or work positions, Bob may be in violation of the Stolen Valor Act. Individual state laws may apply as well.

Sure has a lot of….I mean a LOOOOOOOT of medals for a guy who was only in for 4 years. He really overdid it in awarding himself all of that. They never learn.

  2. Stuart Bracken says:

One of the keys to any is the Presidential Unit Citation. There wasn’t one awarded for DS/DS.

  3. James Stedman says:

I feel sorry for any Marine who feels the need to live a lie due to lack of self-respect. He should be proud to be a L/CPL who served honorably. Now, he has stolen Valor he never earned and will lose the respect he wanted in the first place.

    • L Cpl Nelson says:

Lance Corporal is the ideal rank but after 4 years?
I’m sure it’s the same reason he wasn’t RECON material.
      All talk
      No walk

  4. Gregory Romeu says:

Another sh*t sucking weasel that went off and won all the wars all by himself! I will honor him with a Combat Jack… Well maybe I will let him have the tissue that I used?

  5. Troy Williams says:

Another POS poser, who wants all the glory but did nothing to earn it

  6. Jerry Stell says:

What a shit stain. I had no idea there was a CAR database. I looked myself up and remarkably they didn’t screw it up and I’m there.

  7. […] good people over at militaryphony.com send us their case on Robert Shackford.  From what I understand little Bobby here likes to play […]

  8. Jeffery Monroe says:

UMMM Gomer Pyle Had A Better Career

  9. Mike says:

Never mind the skill badges, 16 medals and ribbons worn, one actually awarded. Six percent is about right for this guy. And I bet the marksmanship bars are exaggerated too.

  10. jaxworx says:

    That wrinkly white cover, though…

  11. Michael says:

How do u go about checking someone out that I’m not positive he was ever earned our title marine

  12. Kat says:

Am I correct in understanding that this is a person who did a standard four-year tour, got out afterwards, and then — after regretting not having done more — felt the need to embellish a perfectly decent 4-year stint? What a shame!
