BACKGROUND

Emmett West Mills, Jr. who sometimes has the letter “G” as his middle initial, comes to us from The Villages, FL but also has an address in Kodak, TN.  Emmett is 72 y/o as of January 2019.

On October 16, 2018 the Villages News.com ran a story about the Local Masonic Lodge hosting a Halloween party. Here is the link to the story:

On the uniform Emmett is wearing he has full-sized medals instead of racked ribbons. The medals include the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Vietnam service medals. Above the medals, he was also wearing a SEAL trident. Finally, he is wearing Navy Captain (O-6) shoulder boards in addition to the (O-6) eagle rank insignia on the collar.

A search of other pages for the Masonic Lodge of The Villages, Florida, revealed the man’s name to be Emmett Mills Jr., the current Lodge Secretary. The Senior Warden of the lodge was contacted and asked to clarify if Mills was a SEAL or was his attire meant as a Halloween costume. In his response, the Senior Warden stated, “the uniform in question was worn to honor, not only his military service but that of his father’s as well. He is a member of Seal Team 2.”

ACTIONS CONDUCTED BY MILITARY PHONIES

A former Navy SEAL with access to the SEAL BUD/S database was contacted and asked to verify Mills’ name. His findings stated, “From 1943 to the end of 2012 there were only TWELVE (12) men with the last name “MILLS” who graduated from BUD/S. NONE of them show either a first name or middle name EMMETT. Only ONE (1) of those men was an officer at all. That one man was an ENSIGN in BUD/S and only reached LIEUTENANT as a final rank before leaving the Teams. His name is/was ENS/LT ALDEN MORRIS MILLS.

The Senior Warden of the lodge was contacted regarding the findings of the SEAL BUD/S database search. There was no response.

After contacting the UDT/SEAL archives, the Naval Special Warfare Center and checking the UDT/SEAL database we found that there is NO record of Emmett Mills ever completing BUD/S Training or being assigned to a SEAL Team.

Emmett Mills ‘ military records were requested through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.

DISCUSSION and SUMMARY

SUMMARY SHEET

Emmett Mills Jr. retired after serving from Dec 1965 to Sep 1972. He retired in the rate of CTR1 (Cryptologic Technician E-6).  His two awards and decorations are listed as the National Defense Service Medal and the Naval Good Conduct Medal.

The FOIA summary does not reflect that Mills is authorized to wear the SEAL Trident, O-6 rank of Captain, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, or Vietnam campaign medals.

The Summary Sheets above do not show BUD/S training or any attachment for duty with a SEAL team.

To put a fine point on this – Emmett Mills’ military records do not support his claim of being a U.S. Navy SEAL.

STOLEN VALOR

The official military records for Emmitt Mills do not support his claims of military service. If these claims were leveraged for something of value over the years, including accolades at work or work positions, Mills may be in violation of the Stolen Valor Act.

E-6, O-6, what’s in a vowel?…….Next thing is that he’ll claim he flew an A-6. Did somebody report an abandoned ice cream truck somewhere?

  4. Phil Millard says:

  5. Dennis Harless says:

Oh, this guy is a MASON? My experience is that they don’t like having stolen valor types associated with them. They keep their business private but chances are hes no longer going to be a member.

  6. Mark Christian says:

The Villages is about an hour north of me and a phony SEAL residing there is hardly a shock. I’ll bet there weren’t more than 500 legitimate SEALs (in total) serving in Vietnam, but I’ve met them all, plus hundreds more, while living here in Florida. This state is thick with SEALs…mostly fakes. I never served a day, but reaching E-6 in 7 years is probably not all that easy in rating like Cryptologic Tech. Emmett had a nice Navy career, which he pissed on.

  7. Jeffery D Monroe says:

Yes it is Stolen Valor and a Federal Crime To Impersonate a Senior Commision Officer.
