BACKGROUND

Russell “Rusty” Dean Berry, who also went by Jimmy Lee Cooper, comes to us from Schenectady, NY.  He is 55 y/o as of January 2019.

Rusty likes to wear Navy bling – including a SEAL trident and a U.S. Navy Submarine Polaris Patrol Pin.

Here is a closeup of his vest and pins…

There is also a shooting ribbon but it is hard to tell if it is pistol or rifle.

Here is another photo of the pins…

Here is another of the submarine pin…

Although you can only see half of the pin in the photo above, it compares to the following photo of the U.S. Navy Polaris Patrol Pin…

ACTIONS CONDUCTED BY MILITARY PHONIES

After contacting the UDT/SEAL archives, the Naval Special Warfare Center and checking the UDT/SEAL database we found that there is NO record of Russell Dean Berry or Jimmy Lee Cooper ever completing BUD/S Training or being assigned to a SEAL Team.

[NOTE: More about ‘Jimmy Lee Cooper’ below.]

Rusty Berry’s military records were requested through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.

CRIMINAL CHARGES

With the same personally identifiable information, it was discovered that he also went by Jimmy Lee Cooper or James L. Cooper.

It is interesting that he was convicted of burglary, the case being just a week after he joined the Navy Reserve service.

His other criminal cases can be read here.

Not sure if there was a conviction on a felony charge, but this photo that he posted on Facebook would not bode well for him…

DISCUSSION and SUMMARY

DD-214 – SUPPLIED BY BERRY

Berry was asked about some of his claims and he provided a DD-214. When an individual provides one, we cannot speak for its authenticity.

This DD-214 above does not show BUD/S and does not show a Polaris Patrol Sub pin. He was released on a mental condition and given a reenlistment code of “RE-4” which means he was not eligible for reenlistment.

ACTIVE DUTY

From his FOIA summary sheet, it shows he was on active duty from 05 OCT 1981 to 02 JUN 1983. These are also the dates reflected on the DD-214 that he supplied someone.

MEDALS & AWARDS

He has a Sea Service Deployment Ribbon but no schools or duty stations that show BUD/S or SEAL training.

STOLEN VALOR

The official military records for Berry do not support his claims of military service. If these claims were leveraged for something of value over the years, Berry may be in violation of the Stolen Valor Act.

Just another POS!! Why can’t people be happy with what they did in the service (if anything)????? As a veteran, I am proud of serving my country and what I did in the military, plain and simple,
    Keep up the great work

You’re on to something with all his convictions. At least two, the drug charges, appear to be class B felonies in Texas.

  7. […] folks at MilitaryPhony send us their work on Russell Dean Berry, who goes by “Rusty” but has also been known […]

His soon-to-be sister in-law is an enabler and likes to fantasize about male homosexuality. She could care less and wonders why anyone else does. 😂
