So begins the martial arts classes of Kirby Middle School teacher Ray Silverstrand, who teaches Bushidokan, which means “school of samurai ideals,” since it’s modeled after the moral code of the samurai.

Tucked next to the gym, where the sound of basketballs ping and echo, Silverstrand’s classroom is filled with two neat lines of students dressed pristinely in their white martial arts uniforms and belts.

It’s much more serene in here.

Much more quiet.

Much more focused.

He spent 20 years in combat arms and special operations units in the Marine Corps and Army and has been a military hand-to-hand combat instructor. He also spent eight years in law enforcement, mostly in Special Weapons and Tactics units and was also a police defense tactics instructor.

Served in the Marine Corps Reserve for one enlistment as a Hygiene equipment repair specialist.  

All National Guard units listed on his 2-1 file. His  MOS’s in the Army were supply specialist and cook. With a brief stay as an 11B infantryman. No National Guards units that he was assigned to fall under the category of ” Special Operations”.

Summary and conclusion;

   The claims that Mr  Gene Raymond Silverstrand made of serving in Special Operations groups in the Marine Corps and US Army do not match his military service record of file at the National Personal Records Center.
