Kevin L. Mays – Fake US Navy SEAL and Combat Veteran

Kevin L. Mays (AKA Gary Mays) comes to us from Corbin, KY.  He claims that he is a 12 year (remember this number) US Navy SEAL and received the following medals: 2 Purple Hearts, 3 Bronze Stars, 2 Silver Stars with “V”.  Oh, we can’t forget that he claims to have killed bin Laden.

Military Phonies was informed about him from people who stated that he made numerous inappropriate comments to an under-aged girl on Facebook (FB Account deleted).  Kevin states he was in BUDs class 256 (try to remember that number for later).

So now we will enjoy Kevin’s tweets, his profile shows “Former Navy SeAL, Strong, Survivor, Fearless Fighter” blah blah blah  Serving 12yrs as a Navy SeAL and of course stating “I banged my 7th-grade teacher and turned out just fine, I think?  I served 12yrs as a SeAL and now own my own company.”  Kevin, we are not sure if you turned out fine…  Amazing how every conversation stated how he served as a Navy SEAL…

Here it comes folks, all his awards and the true killer of bin Laden, you heard it here first.  It seems like all the news about Bin Laden has been wrong, we actually found the true SEAL that killed Bin Laden… 🙂

Now that he has an application at CNN we assume we should be seeing him there soon, we assume he might be a Subject Matter Expert.

kevin17

OK, Military Phonies asked you to remember two numbers in the 1st paragraph, if you don’t recall please review.  Kevin stated he served 12 years as a Navy SeAL, but wait it gets better, he now just served 14 years as a Navy SeAL.  Then Kevin claims BUDs Class 256, well now he says BUDs class 258, those darn pesky numbers.  So hard to remember those numbers.

And this is where the war hero emerges with all his medals, good thing he’s very humble

On Kevin’s Google account, of course, he states he was a Former U.S. Navy SeAL.

ACTIONS CONDUCTED BY MILITARY PHONIES

After contacting the UDT/SEAL archives and checking the UDT/SEAL database we found that there is NO record of Kevin L. Mays

Kevin L. Mays records were requested through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.  There is NO record of Kevin having served in the U.S. Navy.  So NOT a SEAL, NO 2 purple hearts, 3 bronze stars, 2 silver stars with V and NO killing of Bin Laden.  We are not sure what type of Security Company he owns (he states that) but it can’t be that good…

This POS never served and never got those medals. He would have put the SS, BS and PH in that order That and it always burns my hide when some clown claims my Silver Star that I earned by saving Marines lives and being wounded in the process. If he had those medals for real he would also know that the “V”, if you earned them would be on the Bronze Star Medals. NOT on the Silver Star as it can ONLY be earned through direct combat with the enemy, not given for sweeping floors as the BS often does. So you crap eater, KMA with your war stories. Ask me about real war and real combat and I’ll tell you stories that will make you stay awake at night, shaking with the lights on. Don’t cross my path.

      Ben,

Read your story and I thank you for your service and sacrifice.

SSGT: You said it all. I noticed all the things you pointed out. And I assume you were awarded the SS, thank you and Welcome Home Brother.

  2. Great reporting on this fake POS. Now tell everybody what year that the Bud’s class 256 would have commenced compared to the age of this POS and then factor in his 12 or 14 years of service and then factor in the date that Bin Laden was killed… this information would make for a very good math quiz.

  4. ANYONE that is a Navy SEAL has gone through a six-month-long BUDS class then assigned to a SEAL Team.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_Navy_SEALs

Look through the authentic archive list of U.S. Navy SEALs and apply the math as to all these fakes and find out how old they were at the time they claim they’ve been a SEAL compared to what BUDs class they would have been in then factor in their years of service compared to when they earned any combat Metals versus when that combat took place.

Someone please pull the flush handle and send this turd into the sewer system. He is a sick person. He has no honor at all.

  6. […] folks at Military Phonies send us their work on this Kevin Mays fellow who can’t communicate on Al Gore’s […]

  7. Mark Lauer says:

So, if I’ve got this right, he’s a Navy seAL? I’m unsure if he made that claim or not. I mean, hell, he hardly ever mentions it. Too modest I guess.

  8. The fact that he has to preface all of his tweets with “I’m a Navy Seal” should tell you how much of a poser this guy is. I served 12 years in the Marines. Honorable discharged as a Sgt and I have ZERO Bronze stars, ZERO Purple Hearts, and ZERO Silver Stars. I didn’t do anything heroic to deserve them while I deployed (Iraq and Afghanistan). My hat is off to those that earned them. For an ass hat like this to even pretend to have them just pisses me off.

  9. Vic Czerniak says:

POS needs to be reported to authorities. IF he ever wears any of the awards he mentioned, he is guilty of a felony.

  10. Im sorry but I have to speak my PTSD mind here, why the hell would any one want to fake being in the military? Why not a police officer thies sorry fuckers go around saying im a vet I was a former seal or marine or special forces and then you see them wearing infantry awards, that make the military soldier and Vet look bad in so many ways its not even funny for example I was in the mall close to where I live at I went to purchase a item at clothing store that gave Vets and active duty discount I had my Vet hat on my unit crests tats where showing as well and the guy asked if I was a vet I said yes I am, the cashier told me I cant trust you, I have to see some kind of ID I pulled out my ID card and my VA ID I said pick one then I educated both him and his manager on the military ID card. They need catch thies fucking assholes and charge them for impersonating a government official, I mean a soldier can get into serious trouble for impersonating a officer or senior NCO why cant we hold them liable in some way as well,

    • The government deregulated the crime of Stolen Valor due to the whiny little bitches griping about First Amendment freedom of expression which would have been wearing the uniform and any decorations they chose however if these little turd Buster’s go out and dressed as a veteran and try to obtain any kind of goods money or Services then they’ve committed a high crime then they can get busted.

I say we get the veterans all together across the country which is 22 + million of us and we demand that our government make it a felony to impersonate a veteran under any circumstances possibly even push it to the level where you have to show military ID of some form before you can go into a army surplus store and buy certain items.

    What an absolute POS.
I served proudly with some real Hero’s. I love my Brothers and Sisters in arms.
I hate posers, fakes and stolen valor with a fucking passion. Blast this bastard’s story everywhere. Keep up the good work.

I’m definitely not condoning what this guy done but when people post this link to Facebook the picture that shows up is a picture of a Kevin Mays I went to school with, that is a quadriplegic and lives in a long term care facility. This guy doesnt need to be catching slack for what that pos done!! Please change it if you can!

    • Military Phony says:

What is the name of the long term care facility, please? We would like to call and verify. Thanks in advance for your willingness to help out in this matter.

    • Military Phony says:

Hello. We are still waiting for your response. Would very much like for you to supply the name of the long term care facility so that we can confirm your information. Have not heard back from you.

  13. KEHall-Stephens says:

I want to thank everyone who has fought and continues to fight for my freedom! I feel so ashamed to to live in the same county as this POS low life. A law should be passed. If its illegal to pretend to be a police officer it should be illegal to pretend to be a soldier. Cops protect and serve. And so do soldiers in my eyes.

  14. Former Classmate says:

Before I attempt to give an explanation for Kevin, please know that I too feel stolen valor is a serious issue. I went to school with Kevin, whom is claiming he is a Navy Seal. Kevin was involved in a horrific motorcycle accident in high school, roughly 12-13 years ago. He is paralyzed from his injuries and suffered brain injuries as well. I’m not positive that Kevin has the mental capacity to make the claims he has made or even converse in the manner in which he has. He was living in a nursing home the last I heard. The kid that I went to school with would not have made these claims. It sounds nothing like anything you would have heard come from his mouth. I’m not trying to justify the actions of whomever is behind Kevin’s account. But I do doubt that it is Kevin himself making such claims. It could be, as I have been out of touch with him for years. But my best guess is a case of not only stolen valor, but one of stolen identity as well.

    • Military Phony says:

Thank you for supplying this information. Oddly, we cannot find a newspaper article or police log that references a traffic accident involving a Kevin Mays. Could you please tell us the exact day and location so that we can narrow down the search?

If true, this is terrible. It’s probably a good thing that some sunshine made its way to this entire situation. Not only the identity theft as you allege, but the fact that this person is soliciting underage girls on the internet. We plan to file a police report based on the information that you provided. Could you please supply your name, address and telephone number so that we can include that in the police report? We’ve been duped on similar stories in the past so I hope you understand. Knowingly filing a false police report and creating a wild goose chase on the taxpayer dime is not looked upon too kindly by the authorities but we are confident that you are willing to stand behind your story.

We are also curious that out of all of Kevin’s friends, nobody told his parents about activity on his Facebook and Twitter accounts. Especially when it involves possible illegal behavior when it comes to underage girls. I would assume they would be concerned about this. No matter, once the police are involved it will all get sorted out.

So again, please supply us your name, address, phone number for the police report. We have your IP address and email so we’re good there. Also, please supply the exact date and location of the tragic accident that left him paralyzed.

Thank you for your contribution and help to make this all right.

Very much looking forward to your response.

Kevin was invovled in a bad motorcycle crash back in 09,From what remember, I think,He substained a brain injured. I know he is paralyzed, I think from neck down. That’s why his photos are just of his head the others are older pictures. I know what he did wasn’t right, but I’m not sure if he knows right from wrong due to his accident.

    • Military Phony says:

There are recent photos that clearly show him standing. Even if what you say is true, why couldn’t someone post on his behalf? How can you be so sure it is not him? Also, have you every heard of speech to text? Have you ever given voice commands to your cell phone? The technology does exist. Your confidence that it could not be him leaves room for skepticism. We’ve had para/quad and bedridden POSers in the past. Their disability does not mean that they are not capable of lying. Makes it even more sad.

  16. Former Classmate says:

To correct my earlier post, Kevin’s motorcycle accident was eight years ago, not twelve. Information from a family member of Kevin’s was given and she says “Kevin is a quadriplegic, has almost no use of his hands and cannot use his fingers individually.” Kevin is not using the accounts that those claims were made from.

    • Military Phony says:

There are recent photos showing him standing so hopefully you can understand our confusion. What is the name of the long term care facility and we will call to verify. Thank you in advance for your help.

    • Military Phony says:

Still hopeful to get the name of the long-term facility that he is supposedly staying at according to you. Please provide it. Also, we are preparing a report to give the local police station in his hometown in Kentucky. We still need your specific contact information to go into that report. There are underage girls at risk here, so surely that would motivate you to help us out. We want to use your name in case it ends up being a wild goose chase and there is culpability in terms of using taxpayer resources and don’t want to be on the hook for that. If you are confident in the information that you provided it shouldn’t be a problem, right? Look forward to your response and thank you in advance for your willingness to help in this matter.

    • The reason you also cannot find an aritcal is because the local paper didn’t have a website established till march 2014

      Mountainadvocate.com

      • Military Phony says:

Thanks. The issue at hand is whether he had an accident that rendered him a quadriplegic and therefore incapable of posting on his own behalf. Early and later reports never mention that he was a quadriplegic, but a paraplegic. Besides having the ability to post to his own Social Media accounts, there is always voice to text as well as a number of tools to help the physically challenged. We stand by what we have posted. We assume no responsibility to find out who or why someone was posting under the name “Kevin Mays” and claiming to be a Navy SEAL and making inappropriate posts to underage girls. Doesn’t seem far-fetched considering that most of the stuff posted on those accounts is pornography.

I’m suggesting that Kevin Mays’ family sort through this with him and find out what’s going on instead of having a knee-jerk response that it couldn’t have been their dear Kevin. Call the police if need be, unless of course, they develop a concern that all arrows may point back to Kevin.

hes not in no wheel chair from his photos in 2016. hes fake all thee way around.

    • Military Phony says:

We have seen the same thing. Photos of him clearly standing.

      • Paul Mays says:

There are no photos of him “Clearly” standing after 2009 since he is Paralyzed totally from the waste down and partially from the neck down … You people had better start doing some Verification before continuing on this course.. It’s starting to take on the appearance of Libel.. He wrecked on March 10 , 2009 in Himyar , Kentucky and was flown by life flight to UK and it was almost a fatal accident. He had a trac with sever head and spinal injury which left him in a wheel chair for life.. He was paraplegic for over a year and has regained some use of his upper body but very limited use of individual fingers.. He live’s at home in Barbourville , Ky being cared for by his mother and father Behula and Gary Mays. Head on down here and get in touch with me and I’ll drive you to his home to meet him…

      • Military Phony says:

Paul Mays – Yes, the photo on his Facebook page.

So, you are threatening us with a lawsuit? Tsk, tsk. Seems like you would be interested in getting to the bottom of this. You have not retained an attorney because any attorney worth his/her salt would not have advised you to threaten anyone with a lawsuit. The state bar tends to look down on that, as in taking steps to disbar the attorney for it.

Let’s try and keep this respectful, shall we?

Now, things are changing. First, he was a quadriplegic and now he is a paraplegic with the use of his hands.

We saw references to the accident and nowhere did it say he was a quadriplegic. We are not interested in establishing whether he did or did not have an accident. We don’t go and visit them in their hometown and have an intervention by way of a sit-down. Just because this was your expectation, it doesn’t necessarily translate to what we should do.

When we have enough evidence that a person’s military record does not equal their claims, we post. This is less about shaming, although there is some of that, and more about making the public aware of our findings. In this case, there are underage women that are at risk.

We post and move on. Nothing personal.

As I stated to another poster – sadly, we have posted paraplegics and medically bed-ridden individuals in the past. Just because someone has medical challenges it does not mean they no longer have the ability to stretch the truth. As cold as it may seem to you – they do not get a pass.

Of all people that should be thankful that this has come to light, it should be his family. Maybe they can head some aspects of behavior off before he gets himself in trouble. If his identity was stolen as some posters suggested, claiming it couldn’t be him, then I’m curious as to why there is no outrage over his account being hacked or his identity stolen. The concern seems to be directed toward us when we are merely saying that “Kevin Mays” was not a Navy SEAL and there are no military records to support that claim.

Why are WE proposing calling the police and not his parents or others in his family? Why are you not calling the police, as his cousin? Please take that step and provide a police report number. We will contact the precinct and obtain the number as verification.

Could it be that Kevin has enough use of his hands that he is capable of posting on Facebook, Twitter and Google accounts? You are claiming that is not possible but do not give a good reason why other than I’m guessing – that we should take pity on him due to his condition. That has nothing to do with the facts at hand. The bottom line is that there was nothing keeping him from posting on his social media accounts and reasonable to assume that he was the one posting to those accounts. Some have been in existance for a long time so it is hard to buy that his identity was stolen and/or someone hacked his accounts.

This is ugly family stuff and something I suggest that you sort through before law enforcement and/or attorneys get involved.

There is no need to take anything up a notch when a few targeted questions will suffice.

        Adjust your fire.

      • Paul Mays says:

I have personally seen him in a wheel chair and attempted to have a conversation with him 2 years ago the last time and there are no photos of him standing taken after 2009… Period… It’s Impossible and You seem to be unable to understand english language.. I said you are coming close to Libel in your reply chain.. I don’t need to get to the bottom of anything since I actually Know that Kevin Mays was in a motorcycle crash in Himyar Kentucky March the 10th and was airlifted to UK Hospital with traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury and has been confined to a wheel chair with limited use of his fingers and limited ability to formulate cohesive conversation .. And your posts are based only on an easily faked ID from twitter and Face Book… You continue to post to another person that was a school friend calling for location on some long term facility when I have already posted that he Today is in the care of his mother and father, gave you their names, and offered to take you to meet him in person… If you do a bit of research on Me you will find I have a bit of a media presence and if you Email Me Directly I will give you my phone number and speak to you directly…

        —————————————————-
MILITARY PHONY in reply to Paul Mays

I understand the English language. By the way, “English” should be capitalized, “wheelchair” and “Facebook” are one word, and an ellipsis is represented by three dots, not two. Low blow on your part. I’ll ask again that you keep it respectful or this conversation is coming to an abrupt end.

I simply asked about the crash because I wanted to see if it had information about his injuries. Moot point. I don’t know why you are continuing to establish the crash or that he is in a wheelchair. I appreciate the offer to go down to the library and get an article but please, save yourself the time. I will stipulate that he was in a crash even though I saw no article. Fair enough?

The issue is whether he was in a long-term care facility. We were lied to about that in a post. The other issue was whether he was a quadriplegic vs. a paraplegic. He is not a quadriplegic. We were also lied to about that in a post. Posters also claimed that he was a victim of identity theft but it sounds like nobody in his family reported it. I believe we were lied to about that.

The point here is not to rank his suffering, but rather to merely determine if he was physically capable of posting to his Social Media accounts. We believe he is capable of posting to his Social Media accounts whether by himself or assisted by others or with the aid of technology.

You may feel that Kevin deserves sympathy for his condition and therefore should be forgiven for his stolen valor transgressions and his trolling online for underage women. Not going to happen. Let me repeat that – NOT going to happen.

Instead of putting your energy into coming at us, maybe you should go ask Kevin a few questions. Seems like Kevin may have a dark, dirty little secret that the family is just finding out about. How honorable is it that you want to blame everybody but Kevin?

Where you are making a grave mistake is you somehow must feel that Kevin has the market cornered on sympathy. Many SEALs that never made it home are not here to defend themselves from Kevin stealing their honor. Not to mention Kevin giving the appearance that SEALs will troll online for underage women. These type of claims are deeply hurtful to the surviving next-of-kin. Believe me, I know many of them. Kevin has a life, and he can make choices with that life. The people whose honor is being stolen from them don’t have those choices anymore.

The claims that Kevin is making and the medals he is claiming are a felony. Do you understand what I am saying? A FELONY. You’re lucky we don’t put the local district attorney or the FBI to look into all of this, including the activity with young girls.

As I said, we post and we move on. Nothing personal. Why do I need to speak with you on the phone? We’re not removing the post. Ever. People need to be warned about activity coming from that account. We still believe it was Kevin L. Mays. If you are so certain the accounts are fraudulent, why haven’t you reported it to Facebook, Twitter, and Google+?

Look – the bottom line is Kevin was doing something that his family was probably not aware of. I like to think they weren’t aware, anyway. Hard to imagine they would condone that behavior – stolen valor claims and trolling for underage women. It’s embarrasing, I get it. I really do. But to direct your anger at an internet forum is not getting at the root of the problem. Do you really believe that Kevin is innocent, here? You have no proof that he is innocent other than your shocking disbelief. Again, maybe you should save yourself a trip to the library and save your fingers some typing and just go ask him a few questions.

Noticed that a few of the accounts are going away. Now why would an internet hacker and identity thief be worried about an account in someone else’s name? Why would that concern them enough to shut it down?

Please be mindful of your tone should you choose to followup. I’m growing tired very fast of responding to you when you have nothing new to offer. All of your future posts will not be approved if you cannot keep it civil.

      • Military Phony says:

Also, we did not have him living at a long-term care facility. The information that you provided as to living with his parents reflects what we have. Some posters here have claimed that he is in a nursing home/long-term care facility.

They demand to be taken seriously when they themselves struggle with the truth.

    • Matthew baker says:

Knowing him personally the pic of his face is him but the one of him standing is not I have no idea who that pic is of, but the actually kevin l Mays has little use of his fingers so little he can’t even feed him self

      • Paul Mays says:

Just to be clear … After he wrecked he was in a Rehab facility for a while but i don’t know the name of it as it was in 2009 and I think he was sent home in 2010 .. I checked with the Editor of the local News Paper (The Mountain Advocate) and he looked in their online files but they purged such files on a 5 year cycle But he is going to the local library that maintains a microfiche of old papers ether tomorrow or the next day to see if there is a article on the crash…

  19. We live in an extremely small town the newspapers usually wont report unless it’s a crash on an actual road not on a dirt bike in the countryside I’m trying to get friends on the local community to reach out to his family to make contact to assist in the investigation and also find name of long-term care facility he now reside in but in the mean time I was able to uncover this hopefully this will help

    • Okay so get a statement from your local County sheriff and have your Sheriff post the information. Then it will be case closed.

  20. Okay if these reports are true about this man being a paraplegic and not being able to post any of this kind of stuff on the internet I would say that it is up to the author and the webmaster of this site to put these thoughts on hold until further investigation is completed to prove either for or against the situation of him not being able to post these types of ludacris and false statements about him being a SEAL and that the rest of us refrain from any further derogatory comments until the proof and the facts of been produced.

I know that just as much as we are ready and eager to pounce on anyone trying to steal the Valor of those that put their faith in their God and put their life in the line of danger in defense of our nation and our citizens that we are also equally just as willing to defend the innocent and those that cannot defend themselves.

    • Military Phony says:

I get what you are saying but there is no further investigation. His own family admitted that he is paraplegic (vs. quadriplegic) and has use of his hands.

We feel that Kevin Mays was capable of posting to Social Media accounts established in his own name, or possibly was assisted by others or technology. We have no reason to believe it was anyone other than the person whose name is on those accounts.

Being in a wheelchair doesn’t make anybody immune from making false claims. What about the fallen SEALs? What about the SEALs confined to wheelchairs as well? We shouldn’t forget about them and be blinded by the fact that Kevin is in a wheelchair.

The burden of proof is on Kevin L. Mays at this point. This post will stand.

      • I understand exactly what you are saying.
