Background and claims
William (Bill) Humphries from Atlanta GA has a lot of titles under his name. Everything from Stuntman and personal trainer to being a Force Recon Marine. He also claims that he earned the US Army Ranger Tab while he was in the ROTC program at The University of Georgia.
He thrills the readers of his Facebook page about his acts of daring-do:
“Bill attended The University of Georgia became a member of The Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, eventually president and joined R.O.T.C. where he earned his Army Rangrer Tab within his first year which had never been done at The University of Georgia. At Georgia Bill developed an affinity for girls and parties and his grades started to fall. He was known for his wild side and finally he made a mistake that would change his life forever , He was at a celebrated fraternity party where the brothers set the pledgr mobile on fire and when thet firemen came to put the blaze out Bill stole a fire truck as a pramk which ended with an 18 man SWATT team and a felony of 10 years in prison. Billl was athletic very smart with an IQ of 133 and gifted in tactical thinking an exceptionally skilled in combat weaponry, explosives leadership and navigtional tactics so the Commanding Officer of The ROTC AT The University called a contact at the Pentagon who recruited young men that fit the blue print of an experimentl elite Black Operations Unit that worked as an arm of Th C.I.A. the N.S.A. and The Special Operations Force for The United States Navy. On a hunch that some of those claims might not actually be true, we ordered his official records through the Freedom of Information Act:
Military Service Record
Active Duty in the US Marines for training only. The rest of his enlistment was spent in the Marine Corps Reserves. His Primary Military Occupational Specialty (PMOS) was 3531 – Motor Vehicle Operator. His records show that he managed to be awarded the lowest badge for weapons qualification in the Marine Corps. The only qualification lower is “unqualified”.
Summary and Conclusion
Comparing the Bio’s posted by Bill Humphries to his records provided through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) at the National Personal Records Center (NPRC), we can confirm that Bill Humphries was never in Force Recon as a US Marine.
Mr. Bill Humphries claim of being Ranger Tab in the ROTC may be a misprint. It is possible that he meant Ranger Challenge Tab. The Ranger Challenge Tab is the only Department of the Army individual qualification tab awarded exclusively to Reserve Officers’ Training Corps cadets, and approved by the Institute of Heraldry.[1] This award is presented annually to cadets who compete in regional ROTC Ranger Challenge competitions.

Your best defense is to produce your dd-214 which of course we know that you won’t. Otherwise you would have done it already.

I don’t understand why people do such things. I reckon that they live in a dream world filled with fantasy and wanting it so bad to be true that they lose sight of reality. I grew up in the Bronx and in oct. 1961 three of us joined the Corp on the buddy plan and went to PI for boot camp. John came up with a slip disk and some kind of congestion and they sent him home and released him from any further enlistment. Joe and I finished boot camp. Joe became a grunt and ended up going to Nam. I took some test and went to comm. school. Three years later my younger brother was drafted into the Corp. and went to Nam. I believe he was with the 3/4 over in Nam. Went on a few search and destroy missions. He never talked about it much and still does not like to talk about it. He goes to the VA a lot for agent orange problems. Joe did not talk about his tour over there either. And I never pressed them about it. They both have a ton of medals for the many different areas of combat they were in. My brother and I are a part of the Marine Corp League in Galveston TX. Detachment 668. We work with many of the active Marines and their families in the Southern Part of Texas. I sometimes feel like I did not do my part as a combat Marine but my brother always said that if ever I made it to Nam he would shoot me himself so that they would send me home. One brother looking after another. I spent 4 and a 1/2 years on active duty the last 1/2 was COG. convenience of the government because of Nam. They did not have someone to fill my position at the time. One of the Recon Marine called me a pencil head on the Force Recon Blog. and did not consider me as a real Marine. I beg to differ with him. I went through boot camp during some of the most hardest training at that time getting us ready for Nam. Our drill instructors did not pull any punches they went all out to get us ready for what was to come. Today I am 75 years old and there is nothing wrong with my trigger finger. I go to the range with my brother, my son, my grandson all Marines, my three nephews all Army and served in Iraq and Afghanistan. They may not be Force Recon Marines but they served their country, Flag and its citizens. I am proud of everyone of them. For that matter my grandfather was in the Spanish American and WWl, My dad in WWll along with all my uncles. My older brother served in Korea. But don’t call me a non Marine because I have an IQ above plant life.
