CLAIMS
Kevin P. Kowalkowski joined a Facebook group that focuses on support for Beirut Veterans and family next-of-kin that lost loved ones in Beirut, Lebanon in 1982-1984. He claimed he was with 24th MEU (actually should be 24th MAU) as well as being a Recon Marine. He claimed to be a replacement that was sent over to Lebanon in Sept 1983 and left in Nov 1983. Since the Recon Marines were billeted at the BLT Marine Headquarters building that was bombed on 23 Oct 1983, that would also place him there in the building although he never claimed that upon being asked.
Kowalkowski also seemed to imply an association with Recon by nature of this post to the Marine Recon Foundation Facebook group.
Kowalkowski also claims over eight (8) years of service in the U.S. Marine Corps which may include inactive reserve time, but does leave the the strong impression that all of it was active duty.

On LinkedIn he is a member of MARSOC and the Hog’s Den, although there is no record of Kowalkowski claiming to be a Scout Sniper.
FOIA RESULTS – PARTIAL
Since Kowalkowski entered the Marine Corps in July 1983, it did not leave enough time to complete boot camp, ITS, be qualified as a Recon Marine and make it onto the ship to go to Beirut in Sept 1983. He also did four (4) years active duty vs. the eight (8) claimed on LinkedIn although he may have been combining inactive duty.
Likewise, Kowalkowski’s medals and history of assignments do not reflect service in Beirut, Lebanon in 1983. Nor does it show qualification necessary for the USMC MOS of 0321 (Recon Assaultman).

SUMMARY
Kowalkowski’s official military records do not support his claim of being a Recon Marine or service in Beirut, Lebanon in 1983 – let alone both. There was an effort to reach out to him to get his side of the story but he has not answered any questions on this matter.

And they’re always “snipers”. le sigh
He didn’t even leave Recruit Training until Sep 30th, 1983. He was at SOI from 13OCT till 08DEC. Couldn’t possibly have been in Beirut.
Lets see……..how many from 5th Marines were in Beirut…….exactly NONE. He picked up a secondary MOS of 0151, I guess the stress of typing leave papers was too much for him. Or, maybe his time picking up cigarette butts as a Barracks and Grounds Marine was too much stress for his ass.
Guys like this piss me off for many reasons. One of the many is; there were a lot of fine Marines in 1stMarDiv that would have traded places with me to go to Beirut. Many were better Marines than I. But, they didn’t have the opportunity to. They served, did it with pride and honor.
I hope you read this Kevin. You pissed all over the honor of those that served during those years and didn’t deploy to Beirut simply because of their unit assignment. I did deploy to Beirut you bottom feeding piece of shit. I will never sit silent while a shitbird like you tries to imply that being a Marine stationed anywhere during those days was not enough.
He looks like some kind of offspring from an unholy union of John Travolta and The Joker from Batman.
[…] folks at Military Phonies has a full-time Beirut historian on the payroll now, so all those phony Beirut Marines had better […]
Damn he looks like Scuba Steve!
FUCKIN SIRTBAG!! YOU MAKE ME WANT TO VOMIT RIGHT IN YOUR FACE. HOW DARE YOU TARNISH THE MEMORY OF MY BROTHERS THAT WERE KILLED THERE….OR TAKE HONOR FROM THOSE WHO DID SERVE THERE!! PLEASE GO FUCK YOURSELF
Fucking Disgraceful behaviour, As a Brit that served in Beirut, I concur with all the comments stated by my Marine brothers, such a shame to have to embellish your service, just being a member is enough to own the pride and respect of others. To live on the honour and sacrifice of those brave men is the most heinous of crimes, my god I’d love to put you in your place, I hope someone honourable sorts you out, SCUMBAG!!!!!!
