MY NAME IS ANTHONY GODDARD AND I AM RETIRED FROM THE MARINES. I MADE IT TO THE RANK OF E-7 GUNNERY SGT. I JOINED THE MARINES IN THE FALL OF 1980 JUST AFTER MY 17TH BIRTHDAY. MY FIRST UNIT WAS IN HAWAII IN THE 1ST BLT. 3RD MARINE DIVISION. I WAS ALSO IN CHARLIE CO. “THE BOYS IN COMPANY C”. I THEN WENT TO THE 2ND MAR. DIV. 8TH MARINE REG. AND WAS SENT TO BEIRUT, LEBANON IN 1982. THERE I RECEIVED NOT ONE BUT 3 PURPLE HEARTS AND A BRONZE STAR WITH A “V”.
I HAVE ALWAYS BELIEVED IN GOD AND I DO BELIEVE THERE IS A GOD SOMEWHERE. I DON’T UNDERSTAND ALOT OF THINGS THAT GO ON IN THIS WORLD OR WHY I SAW MY BEST FRIEND SHOT AND KILLED RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME WHILE ON PATROL ONE DAY IN BEIRUT. I DON’T KNOW WHY I HAVE SUFFERED SO MANY YEARS WITH NIGHT MARES AND FLASH BACKS BECAUSE OF THAT AND SO MANY OTHER HORRIBLE THINGS THAT I SAW AND WENT THROUGH. I WAS ALSO SENT TO THE GULF WAR IN 1991 WITH THE 2ND MAR. DIV. I WAS A E-6 STAFF SGT. AT THE TIME AND DIDN’T SEE MUCH COMBAT. THOUGH MY UNIT AND I STORMED INTO KUWAIT WITH ALL GUNS BLAZING AND RECEIVED A NAVY/MARINE UNIT CITATION FOR THAT.
I RETIRED IN 2000 A E-7 GYSGT. (GUNNY) AND AM VERY PROUD OF MY SERVICE TO MY “GOD, COUNTRY AND CORPS”. I NOW JUST SIT AROUND MOST OF THE TIME AND GO TO THE VA FOR APPOINTMENTS WITH MY SHRINK. I RECEIVE A SERVICE CONNECTED VA CHECK AND SSDI FOR PHYSICAL INJURIES AND PTSD.
I DON’T KNOW WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS FOR US VETERANS, AMERICANS AND THE WORLD BUT I DO BELIEVE THAT SOMETHING BAD IS GOING TO HAPPEN VERY SOON TO THE WHOLE WORLD. THESE DAYS WE LIVE IN ARE NUMBERED I DO FIRMLY BELIEVE. THERE IS JUST TO MUCH BAD THINGS GOING ON RIGHT NOW. O’BAMA JUST MIGHT EVEN BE THE ANTI CHRIST. WHO KNOWS. THERE IS ALOT OF EVIL IN THIS WORLD RIGHT NOW AND I DO FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT GOD IS COMING BACK REAL SOON TO END IT ALL. JUST LIKE WITH NOAH AND HIS ARK. THIS TIME IT WON’T BE AS PRETTY.
I PERSONALLY DO NOT CARE WHAT HAPPENS OR WHEN IT HAPPENS. I DID MY TIME IN HELL AND I’M MORE THEN READY TO GO HOME AND BE AT PEACE FOR ONCE IN MY LIFE. AMEN. ONE MORE THING, I DO NOT VOTE OR WILL I VOTE FOR ANY OF THESE CORRUPT POLITIONS. I DO NOT LIKE THE U.S. GOVERNMENT AND WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO YOU, ME AND THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. ESPECIALLY WITH HEALTH CARE AND SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS. THEY DON’T HAVE TO OR ARE THEY EFFECTED BY THIS. WHY IS THAT? IF IT WASN’T FOR VETERANS LIKE YOU AND I AND THE YOUNG MARINES AND SOLDIERS OVER THERE NOW FIGHTING FOR THIS SCREEWED UP COUNTRY, YOU, I, THE AMERICAN PEOPLE AND THOSE CORRUPT POLITIONS WOULDN’T BE AS FREE AS WE ARE, AND EVEN THAT IS GETTING WORSE.
SO YOU SEE, I DON’T CARE ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS OR WHEN IT HAPPENS. I KNOW THAT WHEN GOD DOES COME BACK, I’M READY TO GO. I KINDA HOPE IT’S REAL SOON.

As an Army Infantry Drill Sergeant (Retired) E7 who served at Ft. Benning, GA, I will tell anyone who gives a crap that this guy's cover is amazingly flawless. I kept my cover, as all Drill's do. It is sweat covered, salt infused, dirty, and beat up. The sun burns the color from green to a brown; hence “Brown Round”. One day on any range anywhere in the summer will have sweat dripping off the edge. It will never again be as clean as out of the box. No self respecting Drill (Army or Marine) would get a “new” cover after they served. It is a badge never worn again. It is placed on a stand and kept flat. I don't put my cover on and take selfies. Anyone who has ever been in the military knows the look of their Drill's cover. This is not one that has seen the light of day for more than a few minutes; certainly not a three year tour on Drill status.
